If it’s out of your hands, try to get it out of your head.
“So many aspects of life, school, home, family, work, you name it… were thrown for a loop in 2020. In order to handle all of the uncertainty of the past year, I tried my best to follow this advice: If it’s out of your hands, try to get it out of your head.
As a Professional Voiceover Artist for almost 7 years, I’ve faced a lot of ups and downs during my career. Hard work, dedication, and talent have resulted in some rewarding accomplishments. But the same hard work, dedication, and ability has also been answered with a great deal of rejection too, despite my best efforts. You hear “no” a lot more than you hear “yes”.
After thousands of auditions, I realized the best thing to do was to stay focused on what I can control (my hard work, my attitude, my performance) rather than stress over what was outside of my control (the outcome of any given opportunity).
Embracing the philosophy of letting go of thoughts, situations, and outcomes that you can’t control helps focus my energy on what I can control. How I can make progress and take positive steps – personal or professional, big or small.”
